founders | the wonder years | crossing the pond
Since CEO Alastair is a native Scotsman and Eric started his advertising career in London, it was only natural that method would eventually cross the pond to the UK. Plus, we simply couldn’t resist all of the good curry.
After testing the water with John Lewis and Waitrose in 2006, we set up shop in Richmond in April 2007 and began spreading the method gospel with launches at Tesco, Sainsbury, Boots, Ocado, and a number of other nice retailers. We started with three on the ground (Phil, Tom, and David – here on the way to a sampling event where we had to bring our own table) and our extended people against dirty family back in the US. We’re now seven strong, and counting (including a few women, we promise).
We started manufacturing in the UK soon after our arrival, and already produce 75% of our line here (and we’re working to move across other bits). We’re also experimenting with new technology, including the first 100% recycled plastic bottle, which we’ve already launched with our Go Naked line and soon our hand washes.
We’re not in every store (yet), but are working to grow to more and more places in the UK. We encourage you to pester your local store manage to brighten up their cleaning aisle with a little method. Click here to find the closest place to you to find method. And please email us any time: talkclean@methodproducts.co.uk. We’re always up for a coffee at Source across the road from us in Richmond.
