Whether they want to fight the grime on the kitchen floor, take out the toxins in the shower or pummel the bad stuff floating in the world, they are people against dirty®.

make a cleaner clean start.

by Louise 29. January 2010 14:00

We’re an excitable bunch at method. We love being inspired and we hope to inspire right back. So here we are, almost through the first month of a new decade, and we thought we’d share some of the things and people that are inspiring us right now to make a cleaner clean start.

After trekking Machu Picchu last summer on behalf of the British Lung Foundation, our Andy K. is looking forward to finally perfecting his Spanish. (Buena suerte, Andy.)

Considering how method strives to bring more fun to everyday activities (yep, like cleaning), our Louise was inspired by VW’s “the fun theory” campaign and is looking at new ways method can inspire behavioural changes to benefit the environment (all while having fun, of course).

And our Sarah is still buzzing from an amazing, challenging trip over the holidays to Rwanda and Uganda, where she volunteered in rural communities on sustainable micro-development projects. She’s vowed to continue her fundraising effort throughout 2010 and to return to Africa to see the progress that’s been made...not to mention all her new friends again (much more on the trip to come from Sarah herself).

Who or what is inspiring you to make a cleaner clean start right now? Leave a comment below, and the ones that inspire us most will win a free detox your home kit

Method loves Hopenhagen

by Louise 18. November 2009 16:15

On Dec. 7, world leaders from 192 countries will gather in Copenhagen for the United Nations Climate Change Conference. The main goal of this meeting is to limit future carbon emissions and minimize the effects of climate change.

How would a tiny little soap company like Method get involved in that?

As awesome as a company outing to Denmark would be (and to visit one of the world’s greenest cities for inspiration), we are supporting this landmark meeting of the minds by partnering with Hopenhagen, the people’s voice of COP15.

Through the grassroots Hopenhagen movement, we have the opportunity to help connect a global community of people who want the same things we at Method want – solutions to our existing environmental crisis, and a better, healthier future for us and our planet.

You know that Method is in the business of creating change. Our list of achievements in sustainability is long, from being a founding B Corporation to having the most Cradle to Cradle certified products of any company in the world. Supporting Hopenhagen is another way we can use our loud and proud company voice to motivate and ignite action among our friends.

A few ways YOU can take action:

·         Become a global citizen of Hopenhagen visit our page and you can also claim a FREE Method gift as a special thank you for taking part.

·         Create a Hopenhagen passport on Facebook and utilize your social network to spread the good word.

·         Enter the Hopenhagen Ambassador contest on HuffingtonPost.com for a chance to attend the conference in Copenhagen as a Citizen Journalist. All expenses paid to Denmark? Yes, please!

Don’t ever think that your voice is too small to make a difference.

Which leads me to one of my favorite quotes (which I’m sure I’ve botched here):

“People should work together. Take freckles, for example. If they all came together, they’d make a nice tan.”

And in the perhaps more prolific words of the Hopenhagen community:

“Hopenhagen is change – and that change will be powered by all of us.”

method does machu picchu

method’s very own Andy K, supply chain planner extraordinaire, took time out from the fight against dirty and turned his talents to following in the footsteps of the Incas trekking Machu Picchu on behalf of the British Lung Foundation.

Like any intrepid explorer he kept a travel diary, method t-shirt and alpaca wool beanie close at hand to record his profound musings.

“Emerging from the natural cover of the trees we strode out onto a stone walled plain; is this it?  I thought to myself, over 100km’s hiking for this?

We made our way through the blazing sun to the edge of the plain. What lay before us was a sight that took all aback, a view immortalised in postcards & films, a view I can only describe as spellbinding; Machu Picchu. A fantastically preserved city sitting atop a mountain ridge; its temples and plaza’s instantly recognisable, hundreds of years old yet still in better condition than some areas of my home town Bolton.

A week previously I had sat in the method office joking about the prospect of chewing Cocoa, eating Guinea Pig and how I was not cut out for camping. All of these things had come to pass and they were all worth it.

The first three days proved challenging but enjoyable; taking in mountains, lakes and Llama’s. The final day proved to be the hardest; with a climb up to 4,800 metres above sea level. This also proved to be one of my finest hours, striding confidently up the mountain alongside the guides, facing the cold wind in just my method t-shirt.

Four days of five am starts, ten hour walks and three km ascents were intersected between sleeping in a tent, eating outdoors and fantastic natural beauty afforded to us by this wonderful country. The people were fantastically friendly and welcoming, the children mischievous and cute (asking for a biscuit on first sight of a westerner.)

By the end of the trek I had witnessed a spectacle like few in the world; one that has been voted into an online seven wonders of the world. I had triumphantly conquered three mountain peaks, eaten a domestic pet and more importantly helped to raise over £6,500 for the British Lung Foundation."

by UK 12. May 2009 15:34

Method reaches Big Ben:  this week we got invited to the Houses of Parliament to mark World Asthma Day and the launch of Missing Out – A report by Asthma UK on the children missing out on childhood because of asthma.  needless to say we spread the good clean method love to all and one whilst discussing the serious issues around the most prevalent of all childhood illness.

we got involved with Asthma UK after getting emails and letters from many people thanking us for making products that don’t aggravate  their or their children’s asthma and this week is official Putting Asthma in the Limelight week so we have been fundraising with our fantastic online shopping partner Ocado and donating 11% of all sales this week to Asthma UK’s great work with educating around asthma issues and supporting the families of 1 in 11 children that have Asthma.

Leaving you with a couple of stats to inspire you to go and raise some money with lime

87% of children with asthma have missed school because of their asthma

90% of children said asthma stopped them doing exercise

Every 16 minutes a child is admitted to hospital in the UK because of their asthma

 – help them breathe easier and raise some funds for Asthma www.asthma.org.uk/methodproducts

march madness - method style

by USA 15. April 2009 12:36

The method lobby became the sports world epicenter for an afternoon, hosting The Epic Final Three, a dramatic conclusion to the 3rd Annual Method March Madness Ping Pong Doubles Tournament. Clawing their way to the finals were West Loop Gyros (Andrew and Barb from Chicago), Fire & Ice (Danny & Hazel from SF), and Team Milk (Eliza & Gordie from SF).

With the smell of nacho cheese and corn dogs in the air, the three teams emerged to a frenzied crowd. Andrea fired up the accordion for an inspiring interpretation of the National Anthem that brought tears to eyes that were otherwise focused on Twinkies and Ho Hos.

Match 1 saw Fire & Ice pull out a gritty 2 games to 1 victory over West Loop Gyros, with the San Francisco home crowd spurring on the local team. Fire & Ice was once again en fuego in Match 2, defeating Team Milk in 2 games. With medals adorned around their necks, Fire & Ice then took the traditional victory lap around the lobby to “We Are the Champions”, cementing their place in method ping pong history.
