The EPEA (Environmental Protection and Encouragement Agency) and MBDC (McDonough
Braungart Design Chemistry) are a tandem of an environmental research institute
and design firm specializing in material science, product design and environmental
systems optimization. method works with EPEA and MBDC on an ongoing basis, relying
on them for detailed ingredient research. The institutes are led by the two co-authors
of the visionary environmental design book Cradle to Cradle: Dr. Michael Braungart,
a world-renowned environmental chemist, and the architect William McDonough.
EPEA and MBDC review materials for method based
on the past, present, future framework. For each ingredient that we submit to them
for review, they assess all available technical information academic literature
and issue a report to us that analyzes its environmental quality and safety for
people.
The full list of criteria that EPEA and MBDC assess each ingredient for is:
- Carcinogenicity
- Endocrine Disruption
- Mutagenicity
- Reproductive Toxicity
- Teratogenicity
- Acute Toxicity
- Chronic Toxicity
- Sensitization
- Irritation of Skin / Eyes / Mucous Membranes
- Aquatic Toxicity (fish, invertebrate, algae)
- Persistence/Biodegradation
- Bioaccumulation Potential
